OBJECTIVE

The objective of this project was to choose a classic piece of literature and create a new book cover to draw in new readers, while also connecting to old readers. I chose Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. It's an iconic story with a lot of the strong visuals and metaphors.

APPROACH

Immediately, the medical aspect of the story drew me in. I used vintage medical illustrations of the brain, specifically highlighting the cerebral cortex because that's the area scientists believe controls memory, decision-making, and emotions. Green is used as a primary colour to reference the potion, since green is associated with evil, along with other neutral tones. The biggest challenge was the composition because I didn't want the elements to overwhelm each other.
